Description
The Amend the 13th Amendment Tee was created to bring awareness to the fact that the 13th Amendment officially legalized slavery as a punishment for convicted criminals. We are pushing to amend the line in Section 1 that states, “EXCEPT AS A PUNISHMENT FOR CRIME WHEREOF THE PARTY SHALL HAVE BEEN DULY CONVICTED”.
By amending this line in Section 1, instead of abolishing/repealing the entire amendment the constitution then guarantees that “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude…… shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
Abolishing the 13th Amendment means that the Constitution would hold no guarantee that the citizens of the United State could not be forced into slavery or involuntary servitude!
Section 1 of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution reads in its entirety:
Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
